The political and social impacts of save Sabarimala campaign in Kerala

Will the battle to ensure entry to women of all age groups in Sabarimala turn out to be CPM’s Waterloo?

Save Sabarimala campaign held by devotees of Sabariamala temple in Kerala recently to protect customs of the temple has thrown up many surprises. A well planned brutal effort of Government of Kerala to implement the order of Supreme Court of India (SC) allowing entry to women of all age groups in the temple failed disastrously in the first round. Though the left Government wanted Kerala society to discuss the inequalities in Hinduism and need for reformation, they ended up exposing their alleged discriminatory acts against Hindu temples. Though Sabarimala issue was expected to weaken BJP and RSS it did not happen. On the contrary, CPM has yielded new ground to Sangh Parivar in Kerala to further their goals. Normally public discourse in Kerala is controlled by leftists. But this time Hindutva forces took control of it.

Despite Kerala government’s effort to implement the SC order, no real woman devotee turned up at the temple to pay obeisance to Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity. If there is anybody with some sense in the ruling communist party of India (Marxist) they should think whey even their women cadres did not use the court given opportunity to visit Sabarimala. Though some self-proclaimed women activists (mostly non Hindus) tried to enter the temple under heavy police protection, they had to beat a hasty retreat following peaceful protest by well determined devotees. (Sabarimala allows entry to Ayyappa devotees irrespective of their religion provided they perform the mandatory rituals prior to entry)

Moreover, the move of CPM led government resulted in thousands of devotees, especially women coming out on the streets to protest which baffled political parties, media and self-proclaimed social and political pundits/advisors. CPM could not organize a single public meeting or march matching the devotee protests supporting the government decision. Thus for the first time in Kerala, Communist Party of India (Marxist) ie CPM who always boasted about their strength as reformers and muscle power at the streets has been convincingly defeated on the streets by those who argue for status quo.
The normally meek Hindus of Kerala who always strive to be politically correct even at the cost of their beliefs and traditions mustered up enough courage to say at the face of Communists that ‘we will protect the customs of Sabarimala at all costs.’ This has left many politicians nodding their heads in unbelief. The movement can be considered as a watershed in the social and political history of Kerala because those who upheld their beliefs in the public are likely to repeat in many other issues and political parties will have to accommodate them.

Why Hindus revolted
Why Hindus of Kerala revolted against SC order allowing women of all age groups temple entry? Has Kerala society transformed to an obscurantist group?
The answer is, for courts and left politicians the issue in Sabarimala is  equality among men and women but for devotees it is a totally different issue. They don’t consider Sabarimala temple as a place where inequality is practiced and perpetuated. On the contrary, Sabarimala temple is a place where people of all castes and religions enter and worship God. Sabarimala is the place of complete equality, if there is any such place in the world. Even before Marxism was born the idea of equality was practiced in Sabarimala. Sabarimala is the only place of worship on the earth where each devotee is addressed by the name of God.

Devotee becomes Lord Ayyappa
Every devotee who decides to go on pilgrimage to Sabarimala is addressed as Ayyappa once he starts wearing the string of tulsi beads and blue or black clothes which he removes only after returning from the temple. It means he has become a part of God. It also signifies that devotees of Ayyappa are equal irrespective of caste, creed or nationality and are part of God itself. At the temple the Upanishadic verse Thatvamasi is written meaning ‘Thou art That.’ Every devotee of Lord Ayyappa who enters Sabarimala realizes that he/she is God and returns as an enlightened person. (at least theoretically)
Projecting Sabarimala as a place of inequality just because women between ages of 10 and 50 are denied entry is viewed by devotees as a design of vested interest groups to malign the sanctity of the greatest place of worship of Hindus of South India. Every institution works on the basis of regulations. Will a district committee member of CPM be able to participate in politbureau discussions? He cannot. There is age restriction in India to become governor or president. Do they mean discrimination. The answer is certainly not. Discrimination and regulation are different. Moreover, CPM which fights for women’s rights has not appointed a woman CM in Kerala ever. The party never had a woman state secretary or national general secretary. When a party which does not practice what they preach tries to forcefully implement ideas, it may not succeed.

Emotional and spiritual connect
Lord Ayyppa is to South Indians what Lord Ram is to North Indians or Lord Krishna is to people of Western UP or Gujarat. People from Telengana, Karnataka, Andhra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala arrive at the temple by lakhs and crores. Some walk the entire distance from their home to Sabarimala shrine braving harsh weather and forests. Some estimates say annually around 50 million pilgrims visit Sabarimala. The devotees of Sabarimala include people from all walks of life. At present even people from North India and foreign countries like Malaysia and Singapore come to Sabarimala.
It seems the communists of Kerala have miscalculated the influence of the temple and thought their rhetoric of reforms and progressive ideas will help them to bulldoze the age old customs and give some political mileage to a party which is dying everywhere else in India. However Hindus of Kerala who have been repeatedly battered in the name of Secularism and Reformation have already reached the breaking point and Sabarimala issue turned out to be the straw that broke the backbone of the camel. That is Hindus who have been fed up with the discrimination shown by Kerala government at their centres of worship finally revolted.

Sabarimala is a wrong battle field for communists
An intelligent general always choses a battle field where he has some advantage. But by deciding to fight the power centres of Hinduism at Sabarimala, Comrade Vijayan has chosen a wrong battle field because that is the temple that unites all Hindus of Kerala. In fact, different Hindu castes ranging from Adivasis, Scheduled Castes and OBC Ezhavas to upper caste Nairs revere as their most sacred place. All Hindus from SCs to Nairs used to go Sabarimala together and Sabarimala pilgrimage was a great leveling ground for Hindus who lived in different strata. The level of protest happened in Sabarimala issue would not have happened had Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan intervened in any other temple including Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple because those temples don’t have a history of uniting Hindus.

Aspect of reformation
The propaganda unleashed by the CPM that they are trying to reform customs at Sabarimala is not finding many takers. A move to reform outdated customs should have come from believers. Many outdated customs that once existed in Kerala temples were reformed because of social pressure and agitations from within Hindu society. In the issue of women entry at Sabarimala, no such demand has been made by devotees from Hindu society. The SC decision comes in a case filed by a group of lawyers who are non Keralites and were led by a non-Hindu. So the questions are who wants reforms? Why groups who are not devotees want reform at somebody else’s place of worship? Why Government is not taking initiative to reform gender based inequalities existing in Sunni Muslim mosques and Christian churches? In the age of information revolution Communists don’t have the monopoly of information which they once had in Kerala.

Failed effort to divide Hindus
Whenever Hindu unity happened in Kerala political parties have succeeded in destroying it. This time Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan tried to divide Hindus who took part in Save Sabarimala agitation by raising upper caste vs lower caste theme. He even made SNDP leader Vellappally support the divide. But this time Hindus of Kerala dismissed Pinarayi’s arguments with contempt. Gone are the days when upper castes and lower caste Hindus in Kerala went to war obeying the sermons of political crooks. Everyone knows Brahmin supremacy is over. A few thousand Brahmins in Kerala are struggling for survival. Now Hindus in Kerala know unity is essential for their survival. In many Hindu temples in Kerala non Brahmin priests are doing poojas and upper castes have accepted them wholeheartedly.  Pinarayi’s telling the lie of Brahmin supremacy sounds like a joke. Kerala’s Hindu Youth are more united and are proud of their identity unlike their parents and grandparents who allowed themselves to be misled by leftists.

Earlier, communist leaders like A K Gopalan had led struggles to reform temple customs. But Pinarayi is no AKG. Present day leaders of Kerala CPM lack the image of AKG as men of integrity and sincerity. It is unlikely that even communists will accept Pinarayi’s claims to the throne of AKG. Pinarayi’s all-out war against Sabarimala traditions may cost CPM dear in Kerala, its last stronghold. Some traditions have to die. This time it seems it will be the communist tradition of Kerala.

വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളിയെ വിമര്‍ശിക്കുമ്പാള്‍

എസ്എന്‍ഡിപി ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളിയും മകന്‍ തുഷാറും അത്ര നല്ല ആള്‍ക്കാരല്ല എന്ന ആരോപണം സത്യമായിരിക്കാം. പക്ഷേ ഇതു പറഞ്ഞ് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ എതിര്‍ക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് ചൂട്ടു പിടിക്കുവാന്‍ നായന്‍മാര്‍ നില്‍ക്കണോ. വേണ്ട എന്നാണ് ഇതെഴുതുന്ന ആളിനു തോന്നുന്നത്. എന്താണ് അതിന്റെ കാരണം. പറയാം.

ഈഴവരും, പട്ടികജാതിക്കാരും അടങുന്ന ഹിന്ദു സമൂഹത്തിന്റ നായകരായാണ് നായന്‍മാര്‍ കേരളത്തില്‍ നലകൊണ്ടത്. ഈ കൂട്ടായ്മയാണ് നായരെ നായക സ്ഥാനത്ത് എത്തിച്ചത്. ഇവരായിരുന്നു നായരുടെ ക്യഷിയിടങളിലെ തൊഴിലാളികള്‍. കേരളത്തില്‍ സ്വാധീനം ഉറപ്പിക്കാന്‍ വന്ന വിദേശ മതങളും, കമ്മ്യൂണിസം പോലുള്ള രാഷ്ടീയ പ്രത്യയശാസ്ത്രങളും ഈഴവെരെ ഹിന്ദു കൂട്ടായ്മയില്‍ നിന്നും അടര്‍ത്തി മാറ്റാനും അങനെ ഹിന്ദുക്കളുടെയും, നായന്‍മാരുടെയും കേരള സമൂഹത്തിലെ നേത്യത്വം അട്ടിമറിക്കാനും എന്നും ശ്രമിച്ചിരുന്നും. ചില ഈഴവ നേതാക്കന്‍മാരെങ്കുലും ഈ കെണിയില്‍ വീണിരുന്നു.

ഇവിടെയാണ് വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളിയുടെ പ്രസക്തി. ഈഴവര്‍ ഹിന്ദുക്കളാണ് എന്ന നിലപാട് ആദ്യമായി ശങ്കറിനു ശേഷം എടുത്തത് വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളിയാണ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു മുമ്പ് ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറിമാരായിരുന്ന എം കെ രാഘവന്‍, പ്രതാപ് സിങ്, ഗോപിനാഥന്‍ തുടങിയവര്‍ കടുത്ത നായര്‍, ഹിന്ദു വിരുദ്ധ നിലപാടുകാരായിരുന്നു. അക്കാലത്ത് എസ്എന്‍ഡിപി ഹിന്ദു മതത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് അകന്ന് ഈഴവര്‍ ശ്രീനാരായണ മതക്കാരാണ് എന്ന നിലപാട് എടുത്തിരുന്നു. ഭാഗവത പാരായണം നിര്‍ത്തി എസ്എന്‍ഡിപിയുടെ ഗുരുമന്ദിരങള്‍ സമാന്തര ആരാധനാലയങളാക്കനുള്ള ശ്രമങള്‍ അക്കാലത്തു നടന്നിരുന്നു.

1980കളില്‍ എസ്എന്‍ഡിപി, ലത്തീന്‍ സഭ, മുസ്ലീം സംഘടനകള്‍ ഇവര്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് പിന്നോക്ക-മുസ്ലീം സഖ്യം ഉണ്ടാക്കുകയും, നായര്‍ക്കെതിരെ കമ്മ്യീണിസ്റ്റുകാരുമായി ചേര്‍ന്ന് പൊതുവേദികളില്‍ അസഭ്യവര്‍ഷം നടത്തുകയും പതിവായിരുന്നു. ചിലയിടത്ത് ഇത് ശാരീരിക ആക്രമണം വരെയെത്തിയിരുന്നു. ഗുരുമന്ദിരങള്‍ തകര്‍ത്തു എന്ന പേരില്‍ ബന്ദുകളും, അക്രമങളും 1980-90കളില്‍ മദ്ധ്യതിരുവിതാംകൂറില്‍ സാധാരണയായിരുന്നു. യഥാര്‍ത്ഥത്തില്‍ ഈഴവരെ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് സംഘടിത മതങള്‍ നായരെയും ഹിന്ദു ആശയങളെയും ആക്രമിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അന്ന്.

എന്നാല്‍ വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളി സംഘടിത മതങളുടെ കരാള ഹസ്തത്തില്‍ നിന്നും കുതറി മാറുകയും തങളുടെ ഹിന്ദു വ്യക്തിത്വം സധൈര്യം പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഈഴവരെ കൂട്ടുപിടിച്ച് നായരെ തകര്‍ക്കാന്‍ ഗൂഢാലോചന നടത്തിയവര്‍ക്ക് അതു കനത്ത തിരിച്ചടിയായി. യഥാര്‍ത്ഥത്തില്‍ പിന്നോക്ക മുസ്ലീം എൈക്യം ഇല്ലാതായതാണ് എന്‍എസ്എസ്സെന്റെ പ്രസക്തി പുനസ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളിയെ നമ്മള്‍ നായന്മാര്‍ വിമര്‍ശിക്കുമ്പാള്‍ ഇക്കാര്യങളെല്ലാം കണക്കിലെടുക്കണം. വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളിയോടുള്ള വിരോധം തീര്‍ക്കാന്‍ നായന്‍മാരോടു ചിരിച്ചു കാണിക്കുന്ന ചിലരുടെ മനസ്സിലിരുപ്പ് നായരോടുള്ള സ്‌നേഹമല്ല. നായരെക്കൊണ്ടുള്ള ആവശ്യം കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ അവര്‍ നമ്മുടെ നേര്‍ക്ക് കത്തി വീശും.

വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളിക്കും, മകന്‍ തുഷാറിനും സ്വാര്‍ത്ഥ താത്പര്യങള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകാം. അതില്ലാത്ത ആരാണിവിടെ. ചിലത് നമ്മള്‍ക്കു കിട്ടുമ്പോള്‍ ചിലത് അവര്‍ക്കും കിട്ടട്ടെ. അര്‍ഹിക്കുന്നതിലധികം അവര്‍ നേടുമ്പാള്‍ നമ്മള്‍ എതിര്‍ക്കണം. പക്ഷേ അവരെ എതിര്‍ക്കാന്‍ സംഘടിത മതക്കാരോടു ചേരുന്ന സുകുമാരന്‍ നായരുടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തി വിവരക്കേടാണ്. ഇരിക്കുന്ന കൊമ്പു മുറിക്കുന്ന വിവരക്കേട് നായരുടെ പാരമ്പര്യമല്ല.

Kerala Law Academy strike exposes hypocrisy of Kerala Politics

The protest before Kerala powerful Law Academy, which is arguably the first self financing college in Kerala has exposed the hypocrisy of political parties in Kerala who are adept in the art of hunting with the hound and running with the hare. Kerala Law Academy strike is one of the rare moments in Kerala politics when political parties seem to have lost equilibrium while performing the grand juggling act of balancing the interests of caste, religious and vested interest groups in Kerala with their social obligations.

All those groups have conflicting interests and all of them try to take advantage of all emerging situations in Kerala hiding their real intenstions. Successful political leaders in Kerala are those who have the ability to manage these contradictions (conflicting interests) to a certain degree on each occasion. The need to manage conflicting interests resulted in the hypocrisy prevalent in Kerala politics which claims to be progressive but is actually reactionary.

Having explained my views on Kerala politics let me come to Kerala Law Academy.  For latecomers, here is the background.

Kerala Law Academy strike and its background
A protest by students and political parties in Kerala is going on before Kerala Law Academy, Thiruvananthapuram, demanding the resignation of Lekshmi Nair, the principal of the college and daughter of the college director Mr. N Narayanan Nair accusing her of highhandedness in discharging her duties. The protestors add that the college has violated many stipulations of Kerala University to which it is affiliated. They also allege that the land of Kerala Law Academy was granted to them by the state government flouting all norms and currently the land is being misused, violating the terms for granting. While the students wing of CPM, SFI reached an agreement with management (according to which principal Lekshmi Nair will keep away from the college for five years) and withdrew strike, others are still continuing the strike demanding resignation of Lekshmi Nair and action against misuse of land.

The land originally belonged to the family of P.S Nataraja Pillai, a freedom fighter and former minister of Thiru-Kochi which was seized by Travancore government. Later, in 1967 during the time of CPM ministry lead by EMS Namboothirippad the land was granted to a trust whose secretary was Mr Narayanan Nair.

Kerala Law Academy: Refuge of political leaders
Having said the history, let me comeback to the impact of Kerala Law Academy issue on Kerala politics.

Kerala Law Academy is the only refuge of leaders of political parties of Kerala who aspire to take a law degree (LLB).  Kerala Law Academy gives scores of admissions to those recommended by political parties through management quota annually. These leaders aim to gain some respectability through law degree. They aim a career in politics and practising in courts is not their priority unlike those who get admission through merit quota who want to rise in legal profession.

All political parties in Kerala got this benefit from Kerala Law Academy annually ever since it came into existence. It is said that Mr. Narayanan Nair has several files full of recommendation letters written by doyens of Kerala politics for students who would have never got admissions by merit in any other institutions.

Reports in media say all political parties in Kerala are the beneficiaries of the magnanimity of Kerala Law Academy director Narayanan Nair and principal Lekshmi Nair.  They include CPI, CPM and Congress. BJP might also have received some favours but definitely very less compared to others.

The family members of governing body of Kerala Law Academy are in key positions in many political parties in Kerala. While Narayanan Nair is known as very influential in CPI, his brother Koliyakkode Krishnan Nair is a former MLA and now the state committee member of CPI (M) and state president of Kerala Karshaka Sanghom (farmers organisation of CPI (M). Narayanan Nair’s wife was once state president of the women’s wing of Kerala Congress, which was a coalition partner of UDF. While a family member and trust president Ayyappan Pillai is a veteran BJP leader another member Jayakumar is the special private secretary of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. Lekshmi Nair is closely linked to CPM’s television channel Kairali TV and conducts many shows in it regularly.  

This means the family roots are spread deeply in all power centres and the family tree cannot be dismantled without causing damage to the power centres (political parties). While a CPI (M) lead government allotted land for Kerala Law Academy, Congress government lead by K.Karunakaran approved it later. There had been many accusations against the academy on many counts apart from land allotment. There had been several allegations about changing the structure of the governing body, flouting of reservation rules in admissions, making appointments against norms, conduct of examinations, torturing students, and many more. But no Government that ruled the state bothered to investigate and take appropriate action.
The reason is many Kerala politicians who speak relentlessly against discrimination, favouritism and disparities in public life have either themselves enjoyed the favours of Kerala Law Academy or had used it to promote their cronies. Judges of many courts in India including higher courts have taken degree from here. Thus Kerala Law Academy stands as the symbol of the hypocrisy and disparity of political parties in Kerala.

While there had been some protests before Kerala Law Academy earlier to show that injustice won’t be tolerated, they were all quietly withdrawn. The management had the last laugh always. In the shades of darkness, protestors and oppressors said cheers to the health and wealth of bourgeoisie, while the naive depressed and oppressed were satisfied with the bread crumbs that fell down the table. It seemed that political opportunists and hypocrites would continue to rule till deluge. But they are panicked now. why are they in a soup now?

BJP’s entry gives unexpected twist to Kerala’s political fiascos
The answer is, the unexpected entry of BJP is giving new twists to political fiascos in Kerala. Alleged violations of rules by Kerala Law Academy have been ignored till now as all political parties have got benefits. But unlike others, BJP has not received many freebies from the institution. The reason could be BJP has never been a ruling party in Kerala and lacked the clout. Anyway, fact remains fact. BJP hasn’t received many freebies compared to others with heavy baggage, BJP with a light baggage can move against the management with sincerity to find a solution if it has a will.

There had been only two power groups in Kerala politics, Congress lead UDF and CPM lead LDF. They solved many contradictions to save their skin. Now that is not happening as there is a third group. Though BJP is an untouchable to all mainstream political parties in Kerala, in the Kerala Law Academy strike they are not. CPI leaders are found exchanging greetings with striking BJP leaders. Some Congress leaders have also done that. ABVP is in the joint students’ front. Suddenly, the battle ground in Kerala has enough space for them. If BJP has a long term plan, the Kerala Law Academy strike would continue and the party will reap benefit, if it lacks a plan and will, Kerala Law Academy strike would end.

The strike has exposed the hypocrisy and double standards of Kerala politics. Is it the beginning of a new political culture of sincere politics. Only time will tell.

Let me also add. the culprits in Kerala Law Academy issue are not just Narayanan Nair, Lekshmi Nair and their relatives. Those respected top politicians of Kerala who facilitated the violations of law over the years for their self interest are equally responsible. Those who shared the booty should share the punishment. That is natural justice.

Unrealistic ideals and outlook of the Left stifle Kerala

Kerala, perhaps, has the unique distinction of being the only place in the world where burning issues of the state rarely make headlines. The Government, media, intellectuals and even the general public are oblivious of crucial issues around them which have a direct impact on their life, and focus their attention on what is happening in Utopia.
Public discourse in Kerala is always on certain pre-determined topics like ‘dangers posed by the rise of BJP, Donald Trump’s rise in the US, importance of eating beef, etc. The background could be any place on earth except Kerala.
This is no exaggeration. Those who have listened to the speeches of present chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will agree. Comrade starts his speech thundering against the dictatorial traits of US president-elect Donald Trump and the sufferings of North African migrants in Europe. (It doesn’t matter for comrade Vijayan that his words do not have any significance for Trump, Americans or migrants to Europe) Then, he lashes out at the “ pro-capitalist moorings of Narendra Modi and the danger posed by BJP to the secular structure of India.” To wind up, he will murmur a few words on developments in Kerala. By the time, majority of audience would have dispersed. Afterwards, at the tea shops and barber shops in Kannur and Kollam loyal comrades will discuss about the need to make Kerala society aware of the ill effects of  the rise of right wing in the US.
However, they are blissfully ignorant about the health hazards posed by the piling up garbage in front of their homes or shops. The common response will be who cares!
Prime time discussions in news channels focus on what is happening in Washington and Gujarat. Kasaragod and Neyyattinkara (small towns in Kerala) are Neptune and Pluto to them. While Rohit Vemoola’s fate was discussed by channels for months, they took up the issue of unnatural death of Jishnu Pranoy an engineering student at Nehru College at Pampady in Kerala, allegedly after torture by college authorities, was taken up after social media forced them.
The pseudo-left hold the sway over the public intellect and has brainwashed the public to think that it is important to ignore local issues and focus on what is happening elsewhere. Here is an example.
Once, I met a Keralite chef at a coffe shop in one of the cities in Gulf. He had completed more than 20 years in the same shop. He started as a cleaning boy and became a shawarma maker in course. As I became a regular customer, he began to talk to me and I found that he believed in a peculiar mix of ideology based on CPM brand Communism and aggressive Islamism preached by extremist groups in Kerala. He was living in very poor conditions and was paid a meagre salary. But he seemed never bothered about his own conditions. He always talked about the need to defeat BJP and Narendra Modi and the dangers posed by them and wanted his customers also to follow his line.
One day, I found him very disturbed and asked him about it. He said his mother had become very ill and had been hosptialized. He wanted to visit her but the shop owner who was also a comrade from his own village was denying him leave. The shop owner comrade had taken possession of his passport and had not allowed him to go home for the last five years. Moreover, he was never paid the salary promised in his contract. I helped him to file a complaint with the labour department and embassy and later his problem was solved partly. They allowed him to go home but he lost his job and major part of money due to him. Before leaving he thankfully told me, that the incident had opened his eyes.  “I cannot understand why I obeyed the commands of those who never allowed me to think about my plight. They misguided me and forced me to focus on issues that don’t affect me while exploiting me,” he said.
Every Kerala migrant in Gulf will have similar stories to tell. Even in the Gulf they live thinking and reading about issues that matter little to them and opposing imaginary exploitations that are taking place in some remote African land. They never think about exploitations by their own Malayali business owner and Arab sheikh. Every year politicians from Kerala, especially Left politicians, come to Gulf and snatch away part of their hard earned money as donations to party fund. They never ask any questions to those who made them exile to hot Arabian deserts and spend their whole lives there separated from their families at home.
Unemployment doesn’t lead to social unrest
The same applies to migrants from Kerala to other countries like Australia, US and Europe. The lesser fortunate migrants rush to Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and other Indian cities. The high rate of unemployment resulting from total destruction of agricultural sector ( food grain and coconut) and lack of industries would have resulted in social unrest in any other part of the world and would have turned the youth against ruling class (Communists in Kerala context). But that didn’t happen in Kerala. The propaganda machinery of the left has been very successful in Kerala to divert the ire of unemployed against imaginary enemies who are often imperialists, capitalists and communalists operating in unknown territories or BJP.
The left creates the impression that Kerala is the most developed land in India and it is the left rule that brought about this. Even non resident Keralities in GCC, who sweat it out in the sweltering Arabian deserts to feed their dear and near in Kerala nod in agreement. Pseudo-Left economists like Amartya Sen write thesis on Kerala Model Development and proclaim that Left rule has made Kerala God’s own Country when the truth is migrants from Kerala who shed their blood and sweat  in unknown deserts of Gulf and sacrifice their lives in the icy cold lands of Europe should be given the credit for the development of Kerala.
It might be true that communists have drafted land reforms in kerala and Congress had implemented it. It might have helped the society at a certain stage. But those political parties were unable to take it forward. They opposed mechanised farming which ended agriculture sector, especially cultivation of food grains and coconut.  They opposed computerisation. The result was while Bangalore progressed to become the silicon valley of India, Though Thiruvananthapuram Technopark was one of the first major IT initiatives in India, Kerala is lagging way behind Bangalore. While Chennai rose to become the Detroit of Asia, Kerala has nothing to boast. Even the less developed north Indian states have made giant leaps in development in the last decade. But Kerala is relying more and more on NRK deposits. Once, roads in Kerala were models to other states. Now even Lucknow’s roads will make Kerala envious.
But Kerala’s outdated left political leadership will dismiss all these realities and will cite Kerala’s Human Development to point out that the state has invested in human development which is the real development. But this is actually belittling the hard working Malayali who works outside the state and invests in developing his children so that they will also get a job outside. It is the NRK who invests in human development not the state. Left politicians deny him even the credit of developing his children.
The peculiar propaganda unleashed by the left has actually widened the divisions in the society. Keralities don’t have a feeling of oneness. MPs from the state never stand united above politics to fight for the rights of the state.
In the light of above facts Keralites need to do a reality check. Rather than thinking and fighting for things that don’t affect them, Keralities need to think about their own needs and fight for a solution. Otherwise they will lose many things in the coming days.

Politics of BEEF in Kerala

Buoyed by politics, Beef has become something more than food in Kerala at present. For the ‘Left-Liberals,’ beef is a symbol of their freedom to select and eat the food of their choice. In short, beef has transformed from food to a political tool in Kerala. That is why the left organizes Beef Festivals in Kerala, a state where there is no ban on beef.

Even the organisers of Beef Festivals won’t disagree with the fact that these festivals are not food festivals. They are political statements challenging certain values and lifestyles of Hindus though they are no more religiously followed by Hindus. By organizing beef festivals, the left liberals are trampling upon the sensibilities of a helpless group hoping that their ruthless antics will entrench them in the hearts of Muslims and Christians in Kerala for whom beef is an important part of their food.

How did beef become a symbol of progressive ideology in Kerala? Was beef part of traditional diet of the common man in Kerala whom the communists claim to represent? Or does it symbolize an alien culture which has subjugated Kerala. Is the left in Kerala taking up such imaginary issues because they lack symbols around which they can rally people? As a last possibility we also need to think if the Left Groups have been infiltrated by extremist groups who force them to take positions that crush Hindu sentiments? We need to think, but at the same time we need to accept the fact that in the present Kerala beef as a food has more acceptability than in many other parts of India.

Different aspects of popularity of beef in Kerala
It won’t be an exaggeration to say that about 90 per cent of Keralites taste beef at least once in a while. It means the social taboo against beef does not exist among Hindus in Kerala. At the same time, it is wrong to think that all those who eat beef cook it at home. A good number of Hindus who eat beef eat it only from restaurants and don’t cook it at home.  Beef eating is something like social drinking for at least a few Keralites.
There is also regional, caste and class difference among the Hindus who cook beef at home.

History of beef eating in Kerala
Till 1970s majority of Nairs in Kerala never ate beef. Beef was not a regular food even among OBC Ezhava community or scheduled caste communities. The only community in Kerala who ate beef in Kerala historically is Sambava community who are considered to be the lowest of all castes in Kerala.

Before 1950s this community has been reported to take away dead cows. Rich families who owned cows will give away dead cows to those people.  Members of Sambava community reportedly ate the meat and used the hide to make drums used in temples. It was perhaps because of their Beef eating habits Sambavas were considered to be untouchables even by other scheduled caste communities. Later reformation movements in Hindu society saw an end to practices like eating dead cow.
Now to come to the point, analyzing food habits of Kerala Hindus point to the fact that beef was considered to be a lower status food in Kerala by the upper castes and economically well off OBCs in Kerala once. Of course, respect to cows was there among Kerala Hindus too and very rarely one will find a Slaughter House for Killing Cows, Bulls or Buffaloes run by a Hindu of any caste in Kerala even now.

Rise in popularity of Beef
Beef began gaining popularity and respectability in Kerala by 1970s. There is a social angle to this. The land reforms implemented by the Communists in Kerala had broken the backbone of upper caste Nairs and Namboothiries and the rich among Ezhavas. The rich among minorities were not affected by it and their economic status was untouched. It was almost at the same time that the Gulf boom started in Kerala and this saw Muslims and Christians, especially Muslims becoming richer.  Soon their social respectability increased. This meant their food habits and culture became acceptable at least to a section of Hindus.  Those who worked in minority institutions and those who frequently interacted with them started tasting beef and along with it a new delicacy 

The ubiquitous tea shops in Kerala which once sold only dishes like Idly, Puttu, Idiyappam (Noolputtu), Dosa, Vada etc started selling Porottas also made of fine wheat powder imported from north Indian states. “Tough” Porottas demanded some different curries to go with it and Beef Curry emerged as the right choice. Along with tea shops Country Liquor shops also began selling Porotta and a variety of Beef dishes and Beef soon emerged as the food of the new rich Gulf returnees and local ‘Rough and Tough machos’.

Some market reasons also contributed to the popularity of Beef. Till the second half of 1990s cost of chicken was high in Kerala and Beef was low. Beef provided a cheap alternative to those who wanted to eat meat. Strict implementation of ban on killing wild animals and birds like herons also popularized beef among meat eaters. Thus with the taboo of beef eating gone with the social superiority gained by minorities market realities like price also contributed to its popularity. But even then, it did not become a respectable food for Hindus.

However by 90s end price of chicken fell but people did not reject the costly beef. From now onward it is social rather than market reasons which helped beef to retain popularity.  By 90s, the social equilibrium of Kerala completely changed and flow of petro dollars began to peak. Even Hindus in Kerala flocked to Gulf in large numbers as Communist Kerala produced few jobs for the youth. Life in GCC made Hindu youth from Kerala familiar with Beef as Kerala eateries there which are mostly run by non-Hindus offer variety of beef dishes. While the main dish in Pakistani and Arab eateries in GCC are mutton and chicken, in Kerala eateries it is beef.  Non resident Keralites soon accepted beef and retained their likings even back home.

Thus over a period the cultural and food habits of Keralites changed. New social and economic realities saw Hindus readjusting their preferences. The food culture of minorities got marked and habits of minorities who turned out to be successful in life became worth imitating. Therefore eating beef became something progressive which successful people do. Not many wanted to be marked as an obscurantist who shies away from Beef.  The food culture of minorities prevailed over food culture of the majority.To sum up, the respectability to beef dishes in Kerala is the result of a changed social hierarchy in Kerala where minorities have become more powerful socially and economically than the majority.

The Rise and Fall of Secularism in Kerala

Pseudo-secularism has lost its supremacy in Kerala in the information war and common man in Kerala has started realizing the real aim of vested interest groups who had brainwashed them with their selective interpretation of secularism to achieve social and political supremacy

One of the leading novelists in Kerala P Vatsala, recently startled the intelligentsia of the state when she said at a public meeting that she is proud to be a Hindu and showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi lavishly.  Further, she took on the leader of left writers forum (called PUKASA in Malayalam) and exposed their hypocrisy.

This was just unimaginable in Kerala till a few years ago when it was fashionable for writers, film personalities and others belonging to the intelligentsia to be critical of Hinduism in public to prove their “Secular” credentials. This was a culture forced by the Left in Kerala, especially by CPI (M) offering benefits to those who yielded and using threat and violence to subjugate others refused to yield.

For the 'progressive' in Kerala, Hindu culture is associated with superstition and Hindu Saints are mocked as Demi Gods (Aal Daivam in Malayalam). Hindu religion is portrayed by the Left as full of discriminations based on castes. However, Communist and pseudo-progressive groups are particular not to offend the religious sensibilities of Muslims and to a certain extent Christians and never attack the contradictions in their belief.  

In government schools, where majority of children in Kerala once studied, they were brainwashed to feel that Hindu scriptures approved discrimination and the Hindu Past of Kerala was associated with feudal oppression. The curriculum always tried to misinterpret and misrepresent Hindu lifestyle and hid the shocking cruelties and blatant discriminations that existed and are existing in organized religions.

Vatsala has now exposed the hollowness of Kerala Model Secularism and dared to declare that the “King is Nude”. Many others knew that earlier but didn’t have the guts to say it publicly. But now with the social and political conditions in India changing, things are changing in Kerala also. Pseudo-Secularism, a hypocrisy popularized in Kerala by the Left has now started to lose its popularity in Kerala now. Hindus in Kerala are now realizing the way out of the Labyrinth of Pseudo-Secularism to which they were thrown in. Pseudo-seculars are really panicked as their labyrinth has started crumbling. Their reaction to this is on expected lines;SECULARISM IS IN DANGER, COMMUNALISM IS ON THE RISE, they are wailing. However, the common man in Kerala is not losing their sleep over the secular moaning and is not impressed by the verbal jugglery of pseudo-secularists.

Now why all on a sudden secularism became a not so admired word in Kerala and the social engineering of Muslim-Backward Unity which the pseudo-secular mafia was trying to implement is at a standstill. The political, social and spiritual structure which the pseudo-secular mafia was trying to build in Kerala replacing the existing system is showing signs of cracking. Why is this happening? How did the public saw the real faces of wolves who approached them wearing the veil of goats?

The answer is simple. You cannot fool everyone forever. If secularism means everyone renouncing their special rights based on religion and deciding to become humans, it is really great. But if a group of people interpret secularism in a selective way and implement it to establish their supremacy then, on the day the exploited group realizes the ploy, they will retaliate. Moreover in Kerala, extremist groups infiltrated secular platforms and secured supremacy turning Hindus away from it.

 Let us analyse the situation to understand the story.

Though Kerala also had the history of communal violence and mass killings like any other Indian state or country in the world (remember the communal pogrom known as Moplah Riots) there are some positive aspects also in Kerala’s social life. Here people of all religions live side by side and the Ghetto culture is not widespread. All Keralites speak Malayalam. (Unlike Muslims in Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Karnataka who speak Urdu and local language, Kerala Muslims speak only Malayalam). The food habits and costumes of all Keralites are almost similar. Puradh system became common in Kerala only by 90s.

But despite all these there positive aspects, tension has been brewing in the social set up and communalism has also grown in a covert way. While Kerala was polarized on political lines from 1960s to 1980s, by 1990s Kerala society started getting polarized based on religion. What were there reasons?

They are; 1. Information revolution gave the public access to facts 2. Growth of political and economic power of Minorities leading to growing disparity among Hindus and Christians and Muslims, 3.Rise of Terrorism and Backlash against appeasement of minorities from Hindus. Rise of terrorism means in Kerala infiltration of secular parties and non governmental organisations by extremists and taking control. Though the Hindus have not realized the depth of the plan, the vitriolic attack in the name of secularism has created an aversion to Secularism among them

Information revolution

Once, information was the monopoly of pseudo-secular groups in Kerala. There were two systems only; one lead by communists and other by Congress and allies. Communists denigrated Hindu culture while preaching secularism and always turned a blind eye to the glaring inequalities and contradictions among minority religions, Congress and allied groups did not denigrate Hindusim initially, but they toed a soft pro-minority line accepting the supremacy of minority leaders and sidelining Hindu culture slowly. Media also toed an anti Hindu culture line in social issues and thus the available information was selective and against Hindu culture.

With the communication and information revolution, the glaring inequalities in other cultures also came into light. Though media continues to be controlled by minority groups in the fight to gain Supremacy they are also exposing each other thus letting Hindus know the huge injustices in their culture also. The young generation who uses net now knows very well the discrimination based on birth that denies rights to blacks and native Americans and Black Muslims and tribal Muslims of Arabia. The atrocities of Islamic State and other terror groups can’t be hidden anymore. Everyone now knows the mass killings by Communists in the name of secularism. Hindus have thus realized that compared to the inequalities in other cultures Hindu culture is far more egalitarian and democratic.

Growth of Political and Economic Power of minorities in Kerala

Organised religions of Christianity and Islam had been co-existing in Kerala during the past centuries.  However , Hindus had the upper hand in society. But this has changed over the last few years.

As Christianity and Islam are transnational religions, they have got international economic and political connections. This has given them more money and power in the form of foreign aid and as the world is becoming a global village. Flow of unlimited funds from Europe and the Western countries to Kerala through church sponsored institutions has opened unlimited opportunities to Christian community in Kerala. Foreign funds helped the church and NGOs to open different institutions and thus they increased their reach and influence.

In the meanwhile the rise of the Middle East has improved the economic status of Muslim community and their organisations in Kerala. While from 1960s to 1980s Christians were the richest community in Kerala, now Muslims have replaced them as the richest. The Muslim population in Kerala has also risen to over 26 per cent of the total population. The increase in population in Muslim dominated Malappuram district has resulted in more MLAs for Muslim League and they have more (five) ministers in state cabinet which contributes almost 20 per cent for Muslim League only. Kerala Muslims are highly educated and in competitive examinations and entrance tests to medical and engineering courses they win top ranks also.

Muslims are undoubtedly the richest group and are educationally and socially forward in Kerala. They are addressed as Sahib, Muthalali (means owner of wealth) or Kakka (the elder) etc in Kerala. Majority of land is owned by them and they are the highest foreign exchange earners from Kerala. They have never been discriminated against socially. But all governments give them reservation in jobs, in educational institutions, financial aid to widows, low interest loans, pensions to teachers of their religious schools etc, many of which are not available to even scheduled castes. But look at the plight of Nairs who get a pittance from the government and still supposed to bear the secular burden.

Anybody who questions the social inequalities in Kerala gets branded as anti-secular and RSS follower. Pseudo-secular groups, especially the Leftists used to divert attention of lower caste Hindus by highlighting the so called discriminations practiced in the past against them by the upper caste. But at present, the youth among backward and scheduled castes in Kerala are mostly concerned about present day discriminations rather than discriminations in the past which are misinterpreted to suit the interests of some groups now. The result is they are no more enthused in the pseudo-secular narratives.

Rise of Terrorism in Kerala

Rise of terrorism in Kerala is another reason why Hindus have lost affinity for Secularism. Terrorist organisations  in Kerala recruit from fundamentalist groups. Fundamentalist groups gained prominence in Kerala in 90s when the Left established links with them to gain their votes. (Eg. Are Jamaat, PDP lead by Mahdhani, Moreover, The rise of fundamentalist groups in Kerala was indirectly helped by the ideological campaign of the Left against Hindu culture. Since none, including the Left never attacked flaws in the ideology of Muslim fundamentalist groups, they could convince the society easily as a best ideology. This created a situation in Kerala conducive for their growth. The left parties and Congress compete with each other to bail out workers of fundamentalist groups even if they are caught by law enforcement agencies.

Terror groups in Kerala float frontal organisations and acquire huge assets. They operate hawala rackets and drugs and gold smuggling. They engage in Love Jihad and kill at will. Extremist groups have infiltrated Congress and CPM in Kerala and changed the meaning of Secularism practised by these parties. They make highly aggressive attacks on Hindu belief system. They interpret every Hindu custom as against secularism. They pressurise political and cultural organisations to portray all that is linked to Hindu culture as related to RSS and BJP. Even terrorists and Pakistan are praised by the secularists. Naturally Hindus of all castes have found this too much. This extremist variety of Secularism is in fact the root cause that destroyed secularism in Kerala.

It is difficult to write everything because of lack of space. Are these not enough reasons for the common man to move away from pseudo-secularism? The real need in Kerala now is equal justice for all followers of all Dharmas. A Muslim country like the UAE recently passed anti-discriminatory laws. There needs to arise in Kerala a situation when everyone irrespective of their religion has equal access to all rights and covert operations of pseudo-secular groups should end. Then Kerala will become the real land of Mahabali where there is justice for all and discrimination against none.

Rebellion in NSS against Sukumaran Nair's leadership

NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair seems to be in a predicament after his outburst against noted film actor Suresh Gopi. Several Karayogams which are the basic units of NSS have passed resolutions against him. Many have demanded that he step down immediately for his continuous immature behavior.

In a development which is humiliating for Mr. Nair, the Karayogam of NSS President P N Narendranathan Nair is (his home unit) reported to have passed a resolution attacking Sukumaran Nair. Even the women’s wing of NSS has passed resolutions demanding his stepping down.

While dissent against Sukumaran Nair is in the open, none is coming out to openly support him. The voice of his supporters is feeble. While they try to defend Mr. Nair, they are keen not to antagonize his detractors too. Many observe that Sukumaran Nair’s advisors are misleading him. Some others say he has already lost ability to take independent decisions and so is depending on a coterie.

While as per the complex structure of NSS, it is almost impossible to oust general secretaries, it is also impossible to oust office bearers of those Karayogams which have passed resolutions against General Secretary. It means in reality, while Sukumaran Nair will continue to hold office open dissent against him in NSS will also increase.

A general secretary without any influence in grass root units will soon become a lion without nails and teeth. He may still frighten a few with his roars but people will lose respect of him soon. That also means once political party leaders and leaders of Church (Nair has more admirers in the Churches than in NSS) will soon realize that he is powerless and will shun his company. Eventually Mr. Nair may cut a sorry figure.

Moreover a complex political and social situation arising in Kerala with BJP also becoming a strong force Mr Nair’s Correct Distance Within Equal Distance policy(Sama Doorthinullile Shari Dooram) (Read as supporting a handful of Congress and Kerala Congress leaders  who are loyal to him personally while fighting other Congress leaders and all other parties) will not be relevant anymore. So it is tough time ahead for Mr Sukumaran Nair. It seems he is in a complex situation.

Saving Nairs and NSS from the Secular Trap, reminding G Sukumaran Nair of the dangers ahead

Like his predecessor P K Narayana Panicker, Nair Service Society General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair also seems to have fallen into the trap carefully camouflaged as secular and set with love at the NSS headquarters in Perunna in Kerala by Imperialist minority leaders in Kerala. These leaders are a part of Global groups with their network and interests spreading over continents and possessing billions of Dollars and Riyals and along with fire power.

Sukumaran Nair began with a bang when he took charge by mounting a direct attack on Congress leaders who use NSS for promoting their personal interests and exposing the strategy of minority groups who used to hoodwink NSS by praising NSS general secretaries personally to ensure that NSS doesn’t oppose when government grants all benefits for minorities.

But by blindly supporting the same group of corrupt and communal political and minority leaders in return for nothing Nair’s rebellion against Minority domination in Kerala has ended as a storm in a teacup. Now NSS general secretary is trying to prove his secular credentials by unleashing attack on BJP and Hindu organisations which has pleased fundamentalist and communal groups. Further as per newspaper reports during by elections to Aruvikkara assembly constituency in Kerala Mr Nair has commented that none should try to portray that NSS is supporting BJP.

A Question to Nairs

Based on Sukumaran Nair’s observations on BJP, Nair community needs to ask themselves “Is it such a bad thing for Nairs to align with BJP, RSS and other Hindutva groups?” Let us check if Hindu groups have done any harm to Nairs in the past and do Nairs need to join the current Hindu upsurge in Kerala which is now being powered by SNDP Yogam, Kerala Pulayar Mahasabha etc?

Let us check the attack against Nairs in the past and find who were behind it.

First Attack against Hindu social structure in Malabar

The first attack against Hindu social structure in Kerala was the organized attacks against Hindus in Malabar (North Kerala) which began mainly with the attack on North Kerala by Hyder Ali and his notorious son Tipu Sultan. Namboothirirs and Nairs had to bear the brunt of the ire of attacks on Hindu social structure in Malabar which was spearheaded by Tipu Sultan and aimed at replacing the social structure of Kerala with an Islamic system. This was aided by local Muslim elite as per historic records. It was this organized effort that later lead to isolated attacks against Hindu landlords in the latter half of 19 th century, which ended as the notorious Pogrom Moplah Rebellion on 1921. The public knows only the Pogrom of 1921 which is now known as Moplah Rebellion and not the series of smaller attacks that preceded it.

The attacks of 1921 were ruthless in execution and massive in its impact. It altered the demography of Northern Kerala. Nairs had to flee several northern Kerala districts. It also altered the social structure of Northern Kerala permanently. Many Nair families were turned internal migrants. Thousands were killed; women were raped, many were converted to alien cultures,

The aftermath of Malabar Pogrom is the most shocking. The attackers are now called freedom fighters. Decedents of victims don’t have the right to even protest. The victims are now further humiliated by terming them as feudalists who harassed the poor and in turn got killed in an uprising. Intelligent Nairs need to remind themselves that though the really poor groups in Kerala were scheduled castes and tribes and they never devised a rebellion. They never took part in Moplah Rebellion. So Moplah Rebellion was not an uprising of the poor. It was an organized pogrom by minority groups to alter the social structure of Kerala.

Glorifying violence through pseudo-secular narratives

The Communists and self proclaimed progressive groups in Kerala whitewashed Moplah Rebellion of 1921 as an agrarian revolt thinking that if the then social structure was altered Communists could use the opportunity to establish their install their own structure and gain hegemony among Hindus and Minorities. However they could only conquer the loyalty of Hindus by threatening them. Minorities strengthened Muslim League and forced Communists to accept them as Secular party.

The strengthening of Muslim League in Malabar altered the social setup there. Simultaneously there was another development; Migration of Christians from Kottayam, Idukki etc to Malabar who established their fiefdoms in Kannur and Kasaragod. This Colonisation also had social and political connotations and was done with the active support of the Church. However Communists and Progressive narrated this as golden episode in Human Hard Work. Here also they thought the migrants will join Communists. However they formed their own Kerala Congress and some supported Congress. But their colonization was given respectability by the narrative of Communists and other pseudo-progressive groups. Final result is Nairs lost out completely in Malabar and in the modern pseudo-secular narratives, communal riots in Malabar became agrarian revolts and encroachments of forests and exploitation of tribal groups became experiments in ‘civilizing illiterates.’

Cobbling Minority-Backward-Dalit Grand alliance

Attempts of imperialist minority groups to divide Hindus and gain supremacy in Kerala reached new dimensions after independence in the form of organizing Minority-Backward alliance. It gained momentum in Kerala in 1970s and 80s when SNDP Yogam was influenced completely by Muslim social organisations for Muslim-Backward-Dalit alliance. By placing SNDP on the forefront, these groups for the first time unleashed attacks on Hindu social set ups in South, Central and North Kerala. Meetings organized by them throughout Kerala spewed communal venom against upper castes. Upper castes were portrayed as villains and Kerala’s history was misinterpreted to suit their aims. Pseudo-Secular groups supported those imperialist minority leaders.

Isolation of NSS

NSS was isolated during the period.  Every group except Nairs got reservations. Thousands of crores of rupees were granted to those groups. In Politics, Muslim League became an indomitable group. Minority groups gained whatever they needed in by putting Hindu backward groups in the front and dumping them after use. But this did not last long.

As SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan realized the machinations of minority groups he broke away from the coalition. Dalit groups also realized the danger and distanced themselves from minority groups. The Grand alliance has irreparably broken now. Minority groups are now afraid to approach them for exploitation.

The growth of RSS and BJP has now changed the situation in Kerala. None dares to escape by criticizing the culture of majority community in Kerala. Efforts to ensure real social equilibrium in Kerala have gained momentum.

Now the only hope for vested interest groups is Nair Service Society. They have succeeded in breaking repeated attempts in Kerala to form Hindu unity by influencing NSS. They are misguiding NSS leadership. Does NSS needs to support them. Are they the real supporters of what NSS stands for? Sukumaran Nair does not have many chances. Nair needs to escape from the Secular Trap. If he fails to realize realities and real enemies he will be dumped into the garbage of history by the community. Nairs don’t want to gain hegemony but we won’t allow anyone to gain Suzerainty over us. Remember that we are a group that defeated Tipu at Aluva and stopped his advances to Travancore. We want to live in dignity along with all other groups in a pluralistic society where there is no discrimination against anyone on the basis of caste, religion or colour. For that let us join other Hindus in the current resurgence.
